Day 57
Jack is really doing great. He is off the CPAP and back on to Nasal Cannula. His breathing was really good today, hardly any drops in his oxygen saturation. He’s a real trooper!
The doctors examined Jack’s fontanel again today and it is exactly as it should be, not full at all. It actually feels strange to us because we are so used to it feeling full. All of his incisions look great and he doesn’t seem to be in any pain.
Mommy gave him a bath today and he cried so loud that many other moms and dads turned to look to see who the “loud mouth” was. They all kind of gave us a secret smile knowing that Jack must be doing well after his surgery to be so vocal. It was a great feeling.
A typical pregnancy lasts 40 weeks gestation – which for Jack would have been June 13th. Jack was born at almost 26 weeks on March 5th. Jack is now 34 weeks gestational age (tomorrow). This is the time when they really like to start introducing the bottle to preemies. He took his feeding from a bottle tonight and did very well. This is only his second try and he aced it. So he’s had two practice rounds and we expect many more tries this week.
We are very happy that Jack’s surgeries are behind him. This means it’s getting closer and closer to the time when he can come home. We can hardly wait.
