Thanks so much for your replies. It really did so much to boost my spirits. I have a feeling all of this is going to hit me later -- I haven't done much processing at all.
Jack vomited last night before bed and so far hasn't yet this morning, although he's only had a few syringes full of pedialyte. Thank goodness last night and this morning he managed to keep down his seizure meds! Giving 1 or 2 ml every 10 minutes over an hour worked!!!
We went for a "stat" Tegretol level this morning and should have the results by 1:00 pm. The ped checked him out and thinks he looks very ill and not like the Jack she knows. They gave him 1 tsp of pedialyte every 10 minutes for a half hour to see if he could keep it down and he did...which is good.
If the results of the blood test come back with a low level of Tegretol we know where the seizure came from. It's unlikely though. So our next step would be a CT scan to check his shunt. I am going to call neurosurgery again -- and the ped will do so as well after the labs come back. They will also have to call his neuro with the results too. We've got a lot of good people looking out for Jack right now.
He's been very groggy and cranky -- he's napping now in his bed. When he gets up he's allowed some pedialyte and crackers -- no fat, no milk.
I really, really hope this is just a tummy bug with a lowered seizure threshold due to being sick.
I will try to update again this afteroon.
UPDATE:
The Tegretol level will not be available until tomorrow morning -- someone made an error by telling us it would be ready today at noon. ARG! More waiting. The pediatrician called neurosurgery and I am waiting to hear what the plan of action will be.
