A Really Looooooong Week!!!

We have major meetings/appointments all week.

Last night we had Kindergarten registration -- a ton of paperwork to enjoy...

The entire meeting last night was held for the parents of all kindergarten aged kids. It really left me extremely sad at the end, knowing none of it really pertained to Jack. They talked about kindergarten readiness and how exciting a time it is, and how we'd get to practice a bus ride with the kids....all of it was like going on a really great job interview and at employee orientation getting told you weren't hired...but you still had to sit and listen to what everyone else was going to be doing and enjoying. Now I know Jack is delayed, but to see the smiles on all of the parents faces when they talked about learning to read, and all of the other kindergarten milestones, my heart broke. Jack is not anywhere near what the other kids are...and it really, really hit me last night.

Today is the IEP meeting at Jack's current school. I am prepared with tons of notes (thanks to some brainstorming with friends) and my laptop with video of Jack doing his cards (labeling, receptive, and spontaneous speech).

Wed is neuro, thurs is an intake for wraparound services (autism support) and friday Morgan has her RSV shots...

Someone come and check on me please....make sure I am still standing at the end of all of this! lol
Also, please wish me luck today!!

PS -- don't ya just wanna cuddle with these two????

  1. Wow Angela, I had a long week like that last week. I really wish I could help you out somehow.

So sorry about the kindergarten meeting! My niece had a little boy with CP in her kindergarten class and I remember her saying that the mom cried her eyes out on the first day of school. I think I will do the same thing.

I'm sorry that you are having a tough time.

Good luck with neuro... keep us posted:)

I can completely relate to your Kindergarten feelings when around 'normal' children and their parents. Just know that it does get easier. The kids, in general, will surround Jack and accept them as one of them. They will help him to grow and blossom into what Jack is meant to become.

Jack is lucky to have you figthing in his corner!

  3. The IEP meeting went VERY well! We've added a few new services -- Orientation and Mobility services (which involves vision and mobility), social work services (to get help with fixing Jack's wheelchair), we added quarterly team meetings officially to the iep, we incresed his speech and pt times...and came up with some good goals and specially designed instruction. A plan was written for behavior (aba/vba therapy) and included in the specially designed instruction...and overall I was really pleased with the outcome! They are going to make all of the modifications and I will review them when they are finished. This IEP was soooo important because this is the one that will "follow" him into the school district.

It lasted nearly FIVE hours!! I am relieved it is over. Thanks for your thoughts!
