A Setback for Morgan

This morning we got a phone call from the Neonatologist. She said Morgan had some blood in her stools so they did an abdominal x-ray and found that she has NEC. It was caught EXTREMELY early so this is a good thing. They are stopping her feeds for 7 days and have her on antibiotics. They will do frequent abdominal x-rays and keep her tummy deflated so she's not feeling hunger pains or discomfort from the acids. She reassured us that it was caught very early and they have her back in the NICU for close observation.

As some of us know NEC can be very serious. My heart skipped several beats when Jason said what it was. I can't believe she has it. She was supposed to be a feeder and grower!

We're heading up there right after Jack's nap. I will keep you posted. Please keep Miss Morgan in your thoughts and prayers.

PS -- before all of this she had been taking more than half of her bottles!! Last night I fed her at 9 pm and she was wide awake and making googly eyes at us Sooooo cute!

  1. Morgan is in our prayers. I'm sorry Angela, I know with Jack and recovery it must not be easy for you. It's amazing how strong us mommies can be when we need to. She'll be better before you know it, she is in great hands.

Miss Morgan, Don't worry you are a feeder and a grower! This is just a little setback. You're a strong little lady, keep on fighting and you'll be home before you know it. Mommy and Daddy, everything will be OK. She's in the very best care as you know and they will not let anything bad happen. Like they said, they caught it early, but I know this is tearing you up inside. Keep the faith, especially in Miss Morgan, she's a trooper and will bounce right back. I just know it!

My thoughts, prayers and love are with you all

    Love Grammie

Oh Angela, I am so sorry to hear that!

NEC is especially dangerous for the little 24-25 weekers with their tiny tunmmies, but Morgan is a big and strong girl, and NEC leaves NO damage if it is being caught early!!! P. and I keep your little princess in our payers!

  7. Oh Angela, that is not what you want to hear in an early morning phone call from the hospital. I hope that it settles quick and Morgan goes back to being a feeder and a grower.
