No shunt malfunction or enlarged ventricles -- he's in top shape there...BUT -- he does have a deep infection in both ears. We go back to the ped tomorrow morning for another exam and more antibiotics. I m so relieved to know it's not his shunt -- and to have an explanation for the ongoing pain, miserable moods and bad behavior.
For those that are more familiar with ear infections...Jason and I feel this could be the same infection he was treated for right around Thanksgiving and then again at Christmas. Both times he was given Amoxicillan. I am sure she'll prescribe something stronger -- but certain abx interact with Tegretol, like Zythromax. What do you kids usually get for a stubborn infection?
Also, 5 days into the infection we went back due to pain -- she checked his ears and said he was all clear -- which lead to the MRI to check his shunt. We continued to give him the meds of course, but how could his ear look all clear? Also, initially she only saw the left ear infected, now the MRI says a deep infection in both ears. What kinds of tests can she do to make sure we get it for good this time?
That's great news little guy about the shunt, but not so good about the ears. But at least your Doc can give you medicine and make you feel all better, WE HOPE!!! We feel so bad for you since little guys have a hard time telling Mommys and Daddys what hurts. Thank goodness for smart Docs and lots of tests, even though they aren't so fun when you have to have them done. Listen to Mommy and Daddy and the Docs and you will be feeling better in no time, I just know it! It worked for Papa, and it will work for you too!!
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself, cause remember, there's a little "Bean" coming that is going to need a big, strong, Big Brother to play with and teach all your tricks to!!
We love you,
Grammie
So sorry about the ear infection. The Dr. put Crew on Amoxicillan for his sinus infection and he does seem a little better but still will not eat and he just lays. I don't think we can use Zythromax either because of the seizure meds and I'm wondering if the Amox is doing its job. Let me know if your Dr. tries something else. Hope little Jack gets better fast!
ReplyDeleteGreat news but sorry about the ear infections. I haven't had to deal with that yet. I hear that its not fun though. I hope the medication works quickly!
